Picture Note:
The picture above shows a Sandia National Laboratories’ scientist, Mark Boslough, utilizing the 31.5 MegaPixel display of Sandia’s JCEL Vislab (facility designed by David S. Logsted) to analyze a computer simulation of an asteroid explosion in the earth’s atmosphere. The high-resolution display of the JCEL Vislab provided much greater detail and insight than was possible on a standard computer display. He is pointing to a particular section of the fireball which was an eye-opener on the high-resolution display. See “Sandia supercomputers offer new explanation of Tunguska disaster” for more details.
